Once there stood a small wooden house between the Paradiso and the House of Detention at the Weteringschans in Amsterdam. It was built Swiss style: a dark coloured construction with cross beams and white walls. An entrance with a roof, but I can't remember any windows. It couldn't give home to anything other than a scouts or gentlemens club. In the days before the big change TYP was baptised at that particular spot. TYP, the gentlemens and scouts club!

Nothing much more than a poor lawn with a low green fence in front is left from the ŒChalet¹. An empty spot, a hole. The white space between the two - by wildly shifting and moving - modified letters of the P and the H.

The editors invite all contributors and interested to witness a short memorial meeting next Saturday 31st 17.00-17:30 hrs and to honour the jubilee with a non-material gift. With bad weather we will be in one of the bars at the Max Euwe square.

Zaterdag 31 Augustus 1996: Tien jaar TYP.

Ooit stond er aan de Amsterdamse Weteringschans een houten gebouwtje tussen Paradiso en het Huis van Bewaring. Gebouwd in een soort Zwitserse stijl: een donkere gekleurde constructie met kruis balken en witte muren. Een deur met een afdakje, maar ik kan me geen ramen herinneren. Iets anders dan een padvindersclub of een heren-sociëteit zou het niet kunnen huisvesten. In de dagen voor de grote verandering werd TYP daar tien jaar geleden ten doop gehouden. TYP, padvindersclub én heren societeit!

Van het 'Chalet' is tegenwoordig niet veel meer over dan een armlastig grasveldje met een groen hekje er om voor. Een open plek, een gat. Een nietszeggendde rest-vorm. Het wit tussen de twee - door wild geschuif en gemanouvreer - vervormde letters van de P en de H.

De redaktie nodigt alle medewerkers en -geinteresseerden uit om op zaterdag 31 augustus aanstaande om 17.00-17:30 uur een korte herdenkings bijeenkomst bij te wonen en de jarige te verblijden met een niet-materieel geschenk. Bij slecht weer zijn we te vinden in één van de café's aan het Max Euwe Plein.
