Hij is voor Mac in Truetype en Postscript en voor Windows in Truetype formaat bijgesloten en dus overal voor te gebruiken. TYP ruilt web in voor Hotline "Een website leidt nauwelijks tot interactie. Het web is vijf jaar oud en men heeft het alleen maar over browsers. Je kunt er ook omheen", meent Peter Mertens, redacteur van het tijdschrift TYP ('Genootschap Kunst en Macht'). Mertens heeft een alternatief gevonden in Hotline, een client-server applicatie die zich het beste laat omschrijven als een retro bulletin board systeem (bbs) voor internet. Hotline stelt elke internetgebruiker in staat zijn eigen 'server' te draaien waar anderen op kunnen inloggen. Men kan chatten, bestanden up- en downloaden en berichten posten. Nog deze maand zal TYP van het web verdwijnen en als Hotline server online verder gaan. Hotline is vanwege zijn besloten omgeving zeer populair in het illegale warez-circuit. Een middag langs allerlei Hotlines servers struinen en je harde schijf staat vol met de nieuwste software en de complete hitparade in mp3-formaat. Mertens: "Het is inderdaad een lekker obscure wereld. Het is alsof we met een cultureel kraampje op de zwarte markt in Beverwijk staan." Voor Mertens biedt Hotline veel voordelen ten opzichte van het web. "We hebben nu een clubhuis. Het is gezelliger. Ik geef de mensen die bijdragen leveren aan TYP nu eenvoudig een wachtwoord; zij hebben veel meer het gevoel erbij te horen. Hotline is voor mij bovendien makkelijker te onderhouden. Ik ben tenslotte een redacteur, geen webmaster."
